HERKIMER, N.Y. (November 6, 2010) – The Penn State Berks women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes, but came up short in a 1-0 loss to Keuka College in the North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinal on Saturday afternoon.
In a defensive heavy match, the teams played through a scoreless first half. Cassidy Dawson slid at the keeper box to thwart an attack by the Storm and keep the Lions in the contest with just over 10 minutes until intermission.
Berks' best scoring opportunity came in the second half when Alyssa Scheidt worked her way through the defense. Her shot was knocked out at the baseline by the keeper to set up a corner kick, which the Lions were unable to convert into a goal.
Alex Volovar, Madison Litwin, Ashley Pardoski and Kaiti Sassano were able to keep Keuka's quick transition game silent all game.
The only blemish came in the 58th minute when Nicole Sharick found the back of the net after working a breakaway.
It was the second straight season that the Nittany Lions had a winning season and earned a trip to the NEAC semifinals. The Lions have much to look forward to with their stout defense and one of the most potent offenses in the country.
