John Forry

John Forry will enter his fifth season as the head volleyball coach in the 2017 season.

After four seasons, Forry has collected an overall record of 74-45 and 36-11 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The 74 wins rank as the second most in program-history, trailing the leader by just three wins for the school record. He has coached one NEAC Rookie of the Year (Sophia Zhang) and two NEAC Defensive Player of the Year (Morgan Buterbaugh, 2013 and Megan DeAbreu, 2014). In addition, he has coached 13 members to all-conference teams.

In 2016, the Nittany Lions reached 20 for just the fourth time in program history after finishing 20-11 overall. The team went 10-3 in the conference and reached the NEAC Tournament for the eighth consecutive season. In the postseason, Berks was topped by Wells in the quarterfinal round.

The 2015 squad finished the season with an overall record of 17-11 and were 9-3 in NEAC play. The Nittany Lions reached the postseason for the seventh straight year, where they fell to Keuka College, 3-0, in the quarterfinal round.

Under Forry's guidance, the Nittany Lions went 20-10 overall and were 10-2 in conference play in 2014. The 20 wins were the third most in a season in program history. The team defeated SUNY Polytechnic 3-1 in the NEAC quarterfinal and then took down Wells College by a similar score in the semifinals. The Nittany Lions battled hard in the NEAC title game, but fell by a score of 3-0 to Gallaudet University.

In his first season, the Nittany Lions finished 17-13 overall and were 7-3 in the NEAC. Berks finished fourth in the conference standings and reached the postseason for the fifth consecutive season. The Nittany Lions defeated Lancaster Bible College, 3-0, in the quarterfinal round, before falling in the semifinals, 3-1, to eventual NEAC Champion Gallaudet University.

Forry joined the Nittany Lion coaching staff after spending 11 seasons at Muhlenberg High School, where he took over a one-win program and turned it into a perennial playoff contender. Forry had a 98-88 record with seven District 3 playoff appearances, three county playoff appearances, and one county championship appearance. In 2005, Forry was named the Berks County Coach of the Year and he also coached the Berks County Player of the Year.

Forry earned his B.A. in Social Studies and Secondary Education in 2001 from Alvernia College (now Alvernia University). He was a member of the varsity golf team for two seasons and played on the men's club volleyball team in its inaugural season.

He is currently a Special Education Facilitator at Berks Career and Technology Center. Forry and his wife Amy, reside in Reading with their daughter Madeleine and sons Jack and Paxson.
