Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to have my information completed in order to be cleared for my sport?
The window to complete forms is from
May 1 - August 1. The deadline for paperwork completion is
AUGUST 1st. If you fail to complete paperwork before this deadline, your participation in your sport activity may be delayed. This deadline is for
ALL sports (Fall, Winter, and Spring).
How do I fill out my pre-season forms?
Visit the “required forms” tab on the Sports Medicine webpage. It gives step-by-step instructions for getting started and completing your required forms. There are separate instructions for new/transfer athletes and returning athletes to help you to understand how to establish your profile and upload the correct information and documents. If you are having difficulty, please contact Megan Fowler for further help.
What if I get injured while participating in an intercollegiate sport?
For non-emergencies situations, please contact your athletic trainer to inform him or her of the injury via email. Your athletic trainer will begin with an evaluation determining what impairments must be addressed with treatment and/or refer you to appropriate medical care. Penn St. Berks athletic training works closely with various physicians and specialists for a variety of conditions. We will provide you with suggestions, but ultimately you may see the physician of your choosing.
Who’s the athletic trainer for my team?
All athletic trainers at Penn St. Berks can see any patient, but each athletic trainer has a primary sport assignment. Our staff will work to communicate together when you see an athletic trainer that is not the primary athletic trainer for your sport.
Does Penn St. Berks pay my medical bills?
If you need medical care that results in medical expenses, Penn St. Berks does provide an excess accident insurance policy to help defray the cost of medical care that is the direct result of participation in intercollegiate athletics. Medical bills are submitted to the student-athlete’s primary insurance carrier (personal or parents/guardians) first. The university’s athletic accident insurance is an excess policy and takes effect after bills have been considered by your primary insurance carrier. Please be aware that Penn St. Berks
does not pay for
any athlete’s medical expenses. The athlete's primary insurance and athletic excess accident insurance coordinate to pay appropriate injury medical expenses. Any remaining expenses become the responsibility to the athlete and his or her parents/guardians
.
