Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Penn State Berks opened the 2026 season on the road, falling to Montclair State University 7-1 on Tuesday, September 1. 

The Nittany Lions absorbed early pressure and kept Montclair St. off the board through the opening 10 minutes, with Riley Fisher saving an Isabell Kronow shot during a stretch that included a corner kick and three Montclair St. shots. Ava Ortiz generated Berks' first shot in the 18th minute. Montclair St. added a penalty kick at 21:45 and a Kronow goal at 23:13, before Mary Lane scored in the 32nd minute. The Blue & White reached halftime trailing 4-0. 

Berks got on the scoreboard at 50:16 when Stephanie Morales finished an Ortiz assist, making it 5-1 after Montclair St. had scored at 49:50. Montclair State pushed for more, earning corner kicks at 51:30 and 58:02 around a Morales shot that missed right, while withstanding two Montclair St. shots and three corner kicks through 62:05 without conceding again. Morales forced a save in the 64th minute, and Devon Deery put another shot on frame at 67:24, with Mackenzie Sibello saving both attempts. Maci Laster added a saved shot at 82:39, but Montclair St. scored twice in the final seven minutes, and the Nittany Lions fell 7-1. 

Isabell Kronow, Kaylee Lauber, and Giana Conelli each had two goals apiece while added one for the Red Hawks.  

For Berks, Morales scored the lone goal for the Nittany Lions with Ortiz assisting on the shot.

The Nittany Lions will play their first home game on the season as they host Albright College on Thursday, September 3 at 6 p.m.
