CENTER VALLEY, PA — The Penn State Berks men's soccer team (0-5-1) went on the road as they took on DeSales University (4-1-0) in non-conference action on Wednesday, September 16. The Nittany Lions fell to the Bulldogs 4-0 on the afternoon.
Berks spent the first half defending sustained DeSales pressure. They conceded in the 17th minute when Osmar Ferre scored off Mike McCurry's assist, but reached halftime trailing 1-0 behind six saves from
Josh Martin. Earlier, Martin saved shots at 11:29 and 13:40 before DeSales hit the woodwork at 16:05, and the Blue & White kept the match scoreless through that stretch. After the goal, the Nittany Lions absorbed eight DeSales shots and three corner kicks between 17:05 and 28:57 without conceding again. Berks went into halftime down 1-0.
The Nittany Lions spent much of the second half defending DeSales pressure, holding the score at 1-0 through an early sequence that included two corner kicks and four shots against. DeSales added to the margin when Mike McCurry scored at 60:51 and again at 62:33, putting the Blue & White behind 3-0. Martin made three more saves after that, including stops on Steve Berrodin, Landon Lentz, and Euan McFeely attempts, but DeSales added an 82nd-minute goal by Liam Gardiner off a Dave Kroon assist to seal the game 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Josh Martin recorded 10 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for Berks.
