Berks Tripped by Penn State Abington

READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks fell to Penn State Abington with a final score of 10-6 on Wednesday. Despite collecting 13 hits, the Nittany Lions were unable to overcome the three home runs hit by the Lions.

Penn State Abington jumped to an early lead in the first inning with a two-run double by Zach Bauers, making it 2-0.

In the third inning, Berks responded. Owen Grove singled and Cade Baumgardner walked, setting up a Colby Crills RBI single. Andrew Seibert reached on a fielder's choice to bring home another, followed by a sacrifice fly from Michael DeRichie to pull within one run at 4-3. However, the visiting Lions extended the lead with Donato Incollingo's two-run homer, ending the inning 6-3. In the fifth, Seibert and DeRichie each scored on a single by Michael Thalassinos, narrowing the gap to 6-5.

The Lions extended their lead in the sixth inning with another three-run homer by Incollingo, pushing the score to 9-5.

In the ninth, Bauers hit a solo home run to right field to add to their lead. Berks managed a run in their half of the inning with Seibert scoring an unearned run, but it wasn't enough. The final score was 10-6 in favor of Penn State Abington.

Seibert contributed significantly with two hits and two runs, along with an RBI. Thalassinos drove in two runs, showcasing his effectiveness at the plate. Grove led the Blue & White with three hits, adding a run to his performance. DeRichie recorded a double and an RBI, providing an extra-base hit for the team.

Justin Hefner pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits, with 5 walks and 1 strikeout, while throwing 67 pitches, 32 of which were strikes. Jacob Crisler followed with 5 1/3 innings, conceding 6 earned runs on 7 hits, including 2 home runs, while striking out 6 batters and issuing 6 walks over 113 pitches, 65 of them strikes. John Mudri closed the game with 2/3 of an inning, striking out 1 of the 2 batters he faced, requiring only 5 pitches, 4 of which were strikes.
