Berks Falls at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Penn State Berks faced a tough outing against Bloomsburg, dropping an 11-2 decision on Monday at Bloomsburg High School in the final game of thier three game series. The Huskies broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning, while the Nittany Lions managed to push across two runs in the seventh.

Bloomsburg got on the board in the third inning. Grant Russo reached with a bunt single and dashed to third with swift steals. Dylan Hirsh's sacrifice fly brought Russo home, putting Bloomsburg up 1-0 after three.

The fourth inning saw Bloomsburg extend their lead with a flurry of runs. The Huskies racked up eight hits including back-to-back homers from Mike Miller and Casey O'Brien catapulted Bloomsburg to a 9-0 advantage by the end of four. In the sixth, Bloomsburg tacked on another run by way of a a O'Brien single, stretching the lead to 10-0.

Berks broke through in the seventh inning. Cade Baumgardner singled and scored on a Colby Crills single. Michael DeRichie kept the rally alive with a single, advancing Crills to third. Andrew Seibert's sacrifice fly brought Crills home, narrowing the deficit to 10-2.

Bloomsburg added one more in the eighth, sealing the 11-2 win.

Despite the loss, Carson Brey was a force on the bases, swiping two successful steals. Crills chipped in offensively and defensively, scoring a run, notching an RBI, and catching a runner stealing. Seibert shone defensively with four assists, plus a hit and an RBI from his sacrifice fly.

Jacob Crisler took the mound for the Nittany Lions, throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs, with one strikeout and one walk. Amanjeet Turka relieved, facing four batters and surrendering three hits, including two homers, resulting in two earned runs. John Mudri followed with an inning of work, giving up one run on three hits and a walk. Logan McMaster finished the game with three innings, allowing just one run on two hits with a walk.

Berks has a quick turnaround as they hit the road to take on Lock Haven University at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
