BALTIMORE — Penn State Berks fell to Notre Dame (MD), 63-22, at MBK Athletic Complex. The Nittany Lions struggled with turnovers, committing 37 in the game.
The first quarter began with the Blue & White struggling to maintain possession against the Gators, resulting in a series of turnovers that hindered their scoring efforts. Despite an early layup by
Hailey Miller at 8:21, the team found themselves trailing as turnovers mounted to 14 by the quarter's end. Hann showcased defensive strength with a block and a series of key rebounds, but it was not enough to shift the momentum. NDMU capitalized on these turnovers, with Madison Simmons leading the charge by converting several free throws and executing a fast break. The home team consistently found success in the paint, scoring 16 points inside and extending their lead. As the quarter came to a close, Notre Dame (MD) led 24-4, maintaining a decisive advantage.
The second quarter saw the Gators extend their lead with a strong defensive effort, forcing Berks into 11 turnovers. Despite
Gabrielle Merritt's early jumper in the paint, the visitors struggled to maintain momentum, missing several attempts and failing to capitalize on their possessions. The home team capitalized on turnovers and second chances, further widening the gap. Nittany Lions managed only two points, concluding the quarter with a deficit, as the score stood at 35-6 in favor of Notre Dame (MD).
NDMU took control in the third quarter, applying defensive pressure that resulted in seven turnovers from Berks. Despite the challenges, Miller assisted on two baskets, including a layup by Hann at 5:48. The visitors managed to score eight points in the paint but struggled with turnovers and were outscored 15-8 in the quarter. The Gators maintained their momentum by scoring off fast breaks and converting on second-chance opportunities. The Blue & White made defensive rebounds but couldn't convert them into points consistently. As the quarter ended, the Nittany Lions trailed with a score of 50-14.
Penn State Berks opened the final quarter with a strong defensive start, as Hann made a layup shortly after a turnover by NDMU.
Liz Ruiz followed with a jumper assisted by Hann, contributing to points in the paint. Despite several missed attempts, the team maintained pressure and captured offensive rebounds, with Miller adding a layup to narrow the gap. The Gators responded with consistent shooting, including a 3-pointer by Regina Sabirova at 5:57. They capitalized on turnovers and extended their lead with multiple successful jumpers in the closing minutes. Berks' defensive efforts included steals from Ruiz and McKinzie Tritz, but they were unable to close the scoring gap as the quarter concluded with a 63–22 advantage for Notre Dame (MD).
Merritt recorded a game-high 16 rebounds and added two blocks.
Reagan Thorp scored six points and collected two steals. Ruiz contributed with two steals and secured four rebounds. Miller tallied six points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The next challenge for Berks will be on the road as they face St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
