Berks Women's Soccer Triumphs with 3-1 Victory at Abington

ABINGTON, PA — The Penn State Berks women's soccer team (5-5-1, 2-1) went on the road to take on Penn State Abington (1-9-1, 1-2) on Saturday, October 3. Berks built themselves a two-goal lead in the first half to cruise to a 3-1 victory over Abington to earn a United East conference win.

Berks built a 2-0 first-half lead behind goals from Stephanie Morales and Danica Aaronson before carrying a 2-1 advantage into halftime. Earlier, Zoe Macknicki put an early shot wide, and Morales opened the scoring at 9:11 by knocking in a rebound after her initial shot was saved. The Nittany Lions kept generating chances, including a Victoria McPoyle shot off the top woodwork and additional looks from Macknicki and Kylee West before Aaronson finished Macknicki's left-side cross at 24:41. The visitors added pressure with corner kicks at 29:11 and 36:01, while Paige Thomas put a shot on goal in between. Penn St.-Abington cut the margin on Kaitlyn Frank's goal at 39:38, but Riley Fisher made two saves in the final minute to help Berks reach halftime ahead, 2-1.

Maci Laster added the second-half goal for the Blue & White at 79:38, finishing a Devon Deery assist off a corner kick to move the visitors ahead 3-1. Earlier, Berks played through a physical stretch that included a yellow card to West at 51:00, then created chances through Ava Ortiz and Aaronson, whose 57:35 shot hit the top woodwork. The Nittany Lions kept pressure on from 66:36 to 75:05 with five shots and a corner kick, including saved attempts from West and Paige Thomas. After Laster's goal, Berks added shots from Thomas and Ortiz and saw out the half without conceding, closing a 3-1 win over Penn St.-Abington.

Aaronson scored the game-winning goal, finishing with two shots and one on goal. Morales scored the first goal and put two of her three shots on frame. Laster added a goal on two shots, with one attempt on goal. Fisher played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves while allowing one goal.
