Slow Start Dooms Lions

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Berks Men's Soccer team could not shake off a slow start, falling in their road match-up with Delaware Valley by a score of 4-1 on Saturday, September 6.

The first half began with Penn St.-Berks' Josh Martin making crucial saves in the opening minutes, stopping attempts by Delaware Valley's Roy Hevener and Samuel Kaellefors. Despite early defensive efforts, The Aggies Gianluca D'Alertio broke through with a goal in the 7th minute, followed by another in the 12th. Delaware Valley extended their lead to 4-0 before the break, with goals from Zydan Stewart at the 20-minute mark and Breaden Rawlings in the 34th minute. The Nittany Lions' offense struggled to find the back of the net, with attempts by Nathan Fatkin and Emir Hamzic being blocked by Delaware Valley's defense.

The second half began with Berks pressing forward, as Terridine Grant attempted a shot in the 50th minute that went wide. A storm moved through the area, causing a short lightning delay. Berks kept the momentum through the break and  Jack Salmon capitalized on it, scoring in the 67th minute. Salmon scored the first goal of his career by heading in a corner kick fired by Hamzic. Despite multiple attempts from Gavin Dai and Grant that were saved by Delaware Valley's goalkeeper, the team displayed persistent offensive efforts throughout the second half. Berks could not pull any closer, falling 4-1.
