Myrtle Beach, SC- The Penn St. Berks Baseball team could not find their offensive rhythm, dropping their match-up with New Jersey City University (NJCU) by a score of 6-2 on Sunday, March 9.

The Lions (1-7 Overall) and Gothic Knights (3-1-1 Overall) were locked in a defensive battle as both starting pitchers held their opponents in check. The Lions starter
Parker Zook held NJCU to two hits through the first four innings, keeping them off the scoreboard. The Gothic Knights finally broke through in the fifth inning, plating five runs to take the lead.

Berks tried to battle back, scoring in the seventh inning.
Logan Ewert led of the inning by driving a single into left field and stealing second base to move into scoring position. Later in the inning, Buchman hit a hard ground ball, allowing Ewert to score.

The offense struck again in the top of the eighth inning. With one out in the inning,
Landon Eyster launched a double into left center field.
Andrew Seibert then popped a single into left field, scoring Eyster to cut the deficit down to three. NJCU tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning and then prevented Berks from starting a rally in the ninth inning to secure the victory.

The Lions offense was led by Seibert, who went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Eyster also had a strong outing, going 2-4 with a double and run scored.
Cade Baumgardner and Ewert also collected a hit each. Relief pitcher
Jacob Crisler had a strong showing, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing only one hit.

WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will now take on New England College and Worcester Polytechic Institute (WPI) in a doubleheader on Monday, March 10. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
