READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks fell in its season opener to Albright College by a score of 87-63 on Friday, November 7 at the Bollman Center.
Penn State Berks started the first half with an early layup by
Jaedon Mast, quickly responding to Albright's opening 3-pointer. The visitors maintained momentum with
Matthew Gingerich and
Marquis Ferreira each contributing 3-pointers, keeping the game tightly contested. Midway through the half, the Nittany Lions took advantage of Albright turnovers, with
Gabriel Harrison and Mast capitalizing on steals to keep the score close. Despite Albright pulling ahead slightly, Berks stayed within reach with consistent scoring contributions from the bench, finishing the half trailing 36-30.
In the second half, Penn State Berks opened with a turnover but quickly found momentum with Gingerich contributing a layup assisted by Mast.
Isaiah Cotten and Gingerich maintained offensive pressure with successful layups, while the defense forced a turnover leading to a Gingerich steal. Despite these efforts, the team faced a strong response from Albright, who extended their lead. Berks continued to fight back as Collins and
Quentin Wright added points from beyond the arc, keeping the deficit manageable. Prator made a notable impact with offensive rebounds and a layup, but Albright's efficient shooting extended their lead further. The Nittany Lions could not create a late rally, falling 87-63.
Matthew Gingerich led the Nittany Lions with 13 points, converting three 3-pointers and recording two steals.
Luke Collins added nine points, all from beyond the arc, going 3-for-5 from three-point range.
Zach Prator provided a balanced effort, scoring nine points and collecting seven rebounds while also recording two steals. Mast contributed eight points and dished out three assists, alongside securing two steals.

The Nittany Lions will host Lebanon Valley College in their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 8. The game is set to tip off at 3:00 PM.
