READING, PA — Penn State Berks failed to hold off a late push by Brandywine, falling 71-65 on Thursday night at Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center.
Berks began the first half with tight defense, forcing 10 turnovers and collecting eight steals.
Marquis Ferreira led the scoring efforts, consistently finding success in the paint and from the free-throw line, contributing to a tense back-and-forth exchange of leads with Penn State Brandywine.
Zach Prator and
Luke Collins each added key layups, keeping the score close throughout the half. As the half progressed, the Nittany Lions capitalized on defensive stops, with
Gabriel Harrison and
Quentin Wright aiding in maintaining momentum.
Isaiah Cotten contributed crucial points from the free-throw line, ensuring the team stayed competitive.
Jaedon Mast's late layup gave Berks the edge, closing the half at 33-31.
The second half began with a strong start from Berks, as Mast hit a jumper and Ferreira followed up with a 3-pointer, extending the lead to 38-31. A notable 3-pointer from Prator at 16:56 kept the momentum with the Blue & White, pushing the score to 41-35. Despite some turnovers, Berks maintained their edge with contributions from Wright and Cotten, leading 50-43 midway through the half. As the half progressed, Berks continued to fend off The Lions' advances. Harrison added to the score with a layup at 8:04, extending their lead to 56-45. However, Brandywine rallied back with critical free throws and a 3-pointer from Ja'bri White, gradually closing the gap. In the final minutes, Brandywine overtook Berks with a 3-pointer from Jack Swider, putting them ahead 66-63. Despite efforts from Berks, including free throws from Collins, Brandywine secured their advantage with additional free throws from Corwin Holland II. The half concluded with Brandywine leading 71-65.
Ferreira led the team with 21 points, converting 7 of 12 field goals and sinking two from beyond the arc. Prator added 12 points, hitting 5 of 10 attempts, and contributed defensively with two blocks and three steals. Mast provided support with eight points and a team-high five assists. Cotten contributed defensively by recording two steals and collecting four rebounds.

Looking ahead, Penn State Berks will face Hunter College in New York, New York, on Saturday, Nov. 22. The game is set for noon.
