READING, Pa. – The Penn State Berks men's soccer team battled Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon, but the Aggies held on to a 1-0 victory after a first half goal.
The Nittany Lions put the pressure on in the first half, launching five shots that included a couple of solid scoring chances. In the 16th minute, Caleb Fatkin and Nicolas Harrison each had a strong scoring chance just 30 seconds apart, but neither shot made it on frame.
Delaware Valley scored on a nice crossing play in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
In the 33rd minute, Jack Salmon had a corner kick and it led to a Jake Fought shot attempt that also went wide. Soon after entering the game in the 37th minute, Alex Snyder launched a shot that went high. A minute later, Nathan Fatkin's shot was stopped by DelVal keeper Nick Becker.
In the second half, the Nittany Lions had fewer shots, but they kept the pressure high. Berks had a corner kick in the 70th minute that didn't lead to a scoring chance, and Caleb Fatkin had Berks' last shot attempt in the 88th minute. It went high.
Ethan Brazier made six saves in goal for the Nittany Lions, and a couple were leaping stops that prevented the Aggies from extending their lead.
Berks returns to action at Alvernia on Tuesday night.
