Lions Fall To Mighty Macs

Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Women's Basketball Team fell in a nonconference contest to Immaculata University by a score of 92-50 on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The Lions (0-5 Overall) struck first taking a 6-1 lead behind layups from Ashlyn Clark and Gianna Roberts. Hailey Miller gathered up a missed shot and converted a layup to make the score 8-5. The Mighty Macs (4-1 Overall) responded by taking an 11-10 lead. Miller put Berks back in front, banking in a 3-pointer. She then found Jalyn Hann for an easy layup. Immaculata finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to hold a seven-point lead heading into the second quarter.

Mahala Ruffner started the scoring in the second quarter, putting back an offensive rebound. Morgan Dunbar swiped a steal and converted a layup in transition to bring the Lions back within five. On the next possession, Dunbar drilled a 3-pointer making the score 26-22. Miller then converted a steal-and-score to cut the deficit down to two. Immaculata recaptured the momentum, going on a 21-2 run to close the half and led 47-26 at the break.

Berks tried to get back on track in the third quarter, with Miller scoring twice to open the half. Clark then heated up converting two layups, drawing a foul on the second and converting a three-point play. The Might Macs did not let the Lions climb back into the game, closing the quarter by scoring the final 13 points. The Lions could not cut the deficit in the fourth quarter, as Immaculata pulled away for the 92-50 victory.

Miller led the Lions in scoring, finishing the night with 19 points, going 7-15 from the floor. Clark also reached double figures, scoring 14 points to go along with five rebounds. Dunbar made a splash scoring seven points. The Lions were excellent at the free throw line, going 7-7 as a team.

The Lions pause until after fall break when they host Neumann University on Monday, Dec. 2. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
