Reading, Pa. - The Penn St. Berks Men's Basketball Team dropped their first road contest of the season, falling to local foe Alvernia University by a score of 101-71 on Monday, Nov. 11.
The Lions (0-2 Overall) kept pace early in the game with
Josh Mingledolph and
Isaiah Cotten each knocking down shots. Alvernia seized the momentum with a 12-0 run, taking a 14-point lead. Berks tried to climb back into the game with
Kai Davis and
Jaedon Mast converting baskets on back-to-back possession.
Luke Collins then swished a 3-pointer, cutting the deficit down to 14. Later in the half Mast knocked down a 3-pointer as part of a 7-0 run.
Andre Ballard kept the flurry of 3-pointers going with one of his own, bringing Berks back within nine points. The Golden Wolves responded by going on a 16-5 run to end the half and hold a 51-31 advantage at the break.
Alvernia continued its momentum, scoring the first 13 points of the second half to extend their advantage. Berks hit several 3-pointers throughout the second half, but they could not string together enough baskets to threaten the Golden Wolves lead.Â
The Lions were led by Ballard who finished with a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Davis and Cotten also reached double figures, scoring 11 points each. The Lions defense did force 19 turnovers directly leading to 25 points.Â
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions return to the court when they take part in the Mustang Classic Tip-Off Tournament facing the hosts Stevenson University on Friday, Nov. 15. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
