Dickinson Defeats Volleyball

READING, Pa. – The Penn State Berks volleyball team suffered a 3-0 straight set match (25-17, 25-14, 25-20) to Keystone on Tuesday night in United East Conference action.

Senior Jordan Williams led the Nittany Lions with a team-high eight kills and hit .400 against the Red Devils. Sophomore Libby Swoyer paced Berks with 10 digs and nine assists.

Berks won the first two points of the first set and struck back from a 5-3 deficit with four straight points to go up 7-5. However, the Red Devils won eight straight points to take a 13-7 lead. Berks rallied to get within two points at 13-11 following four straight points but would get no closer from there as Dickinson responded to each Nittany Lion run.

In the second, the teams traded points in back and forth action with four ties and five lead changes. With the score at 11-10, the Red Devils won seven straight points to take control of the set by going up 18-10. Dickinson closed out the set by taking six of the last seven points.

Much like the second set, the third set was very competitive to start, and Berks surged to a 7-5 lead behind three straight points. The Nittany Lions went up 10-8 before the Red Devils won five straight points to go up 13-10. Berks rallied to get within two points of Dickinson at 17-15, but the Red Devils responded by winning seven of the next nine points to hit match point at 24-17. Berks won three straight points but a Red Devil kill ended the rally and match.

Berks returns to action on Monday, October 7th as they will travel to face Wilkes in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m.
