Penn College pulls away late in United East tilt

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team kept it close, but Penn College pulled away in the second half en route to a 71-52 win over the Nittany Lions in an United East clash on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats led 24-11 after the first quarter, but Berks closed the gap with an 18-11 edge in the second period to trail by six (35-29) going into the break. Penn College took the third quarter by an 18-4 margin to take control of the contest. The Nittany Lions outscored Penn College 19-18 in the final period, but it was too late by that point.

Hailey Miller had 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a blocked shot to lead the Nittany Lions. Liberty Stitzman finished with nine points and five assists, while Mahala Ruffner chipped in seven points and a game-high 11 boards. Ashlyn Clark, Sam Hagenbush, and Reagan Thorp all had six points. Clark added eight rebounds, while Hagenbush recorded three steals.

Mia Patterson led the Wildcats with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals. Emly Pardee added 14 points, while Rachel Teats had 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

The Nittany Lions will travel to St. Mary's College for an United East contest on Saturday, February 3 at 3 p.m.
