Men's soccer edged by Penn College, 1-0

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Penn College in the United East opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.

The Nittany Lions drop to 0-4-2 overall and 0-1 in the United East, while the Wildcats now stand at 5-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference action.

Playing through a constant downpour of rain, both teams were able to generate some offense in the early going. But neither team had anything to show for it on the scoreboard and the teams went to intermission knotted in a scoreless tie.

In the second half, Berks got called for a foul in the box in the 75th minute. Cooper Smith had a successful try on the penalty kick to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, which they would hold onto the rest of the way.

Penn College outshot Berks by a 22-5 margin and held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks. Ethan Brazier finished with three saves in net and Landon Jamison made a defensive stop for Berks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Arcadia University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
