Softball sweeps Wells, runs win streak to 13 straight

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up a sweep of Wells College in an United East doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field. Berks won by scored of 13-0 and 11-0 to run its season-high win streak to 13 straight.

The Nittany Lions improved to 21-5 overall and 16-2 in the United East, while the Express fell to 1-27 on the season and 0-18 in the conference.

In the opener, Berks scored six runs in the bottom of the first, then scored seven runs over the second, third and fourth.

Mallory Duff improved to 2-0 in the pitcher's circle after allowing three hits and striking out three in a complete-game shutout.

Arizona Shreck was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, while Susan Duncan added two hits and scored three times. Veronica Maryanski and Peyton Vivian each had one hit, two RBI, and two runs scored. Savannah Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored, Rylee Tineri added two hits and scored a run.

In game two, Berks scored eight in the first inning then added three over the next two innings.

Briana Smith put down all 15 batters in order to record her first perfect-game of the season. She the game finished with seven strikeouts to earn her 12th win of the season.

Shreck was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBI, and a run scored, Emily Strupp was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three RBI, and two runs scored. Duncan, Maryanski, Ashley Thomas, and Hayden Perrone all had a hit and scored a run. Vivian and Naomi Fay both had a hit, an RBI, and scored a run.

Berks will host Penn State Abington in an United East doubleheader on Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
