Men's tennis topples Wildcats, 7-2

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over Penn College in an United East contest on Monday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-2 in the United East, while the Wildcats fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Berks jumped out to an early lead with a sweep of the doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Jazae Maina-Itegi and Weston Weaver were 8-4 winners, while Donovan Sullivan and Daniel Popovici won by a similar score in the second spot. Jack Filip and Cole Epting made quick work of their match with an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

Filip continued his strong day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles and Sullivan clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the second flight. Weaver (No. 3) emerged victorious in a three-set thriller with set scores of 1-6, 6-2, 10-5, while Epting (No. 4) won his pro-set by an 8-3 margin. Maina-Itegi suffered a hard fought setback, 4-6, 4-6, to Paul Langbein, Popovici gave a strong effort in a 4-6, 2-6 defeat to Logan Ogden.

The Nittany Lions will host Lancaster Bible College in an United East match on Tuesday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
