Men's tennis edged by Harrisburg, 6-3

HARRISBURG, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback to Penn State Harrisburg in an United East contest on Thursday afternoon.

Harrisburg claimed all three of the doubles bouts to jump out to an early 3-0 lead. The No. 1 duo of Jazae Maina-Itegi and Weston Weaver were narrowly edged, 8-7, while the No. 3 team of Jack Filip and Cole Epting dropped an 8-6 battle. Donovan Sullivan and Daniel Popovici also turned a strong effort, but were topped 8-3.

Maina-Itegi was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the top singles spot, while Weaver picked up a point with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the third spot. Sullivan won 7-6 in the opening set and won by retirement in the second set to give Berks its third point. Shane Gleason (No. 6) dropped his first set 6-3, but bounced back with a 6-1 win in the second. He was edged 10-5 in the third set tie-breaker.

Berks will host Penn College in an United East contest on Monday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
