Softball drops two on final day of spring trip

WINTER HAVEN, FLA - The Penn State Berks softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on the final day of its spring break trip in Florida. The Nittany Lions fell to Carnegie Mellon University, 14-5, in the opener and then were topped 9-1 by Heidelberg University in the second game of the doubleheader.

In the opener, Susan Duncan stayed red hot at the plate. The senior center fielder went 2-for-3 with two home runs, one stolen base, two RBI, and three runs scored. Arizona Shrek finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored, while Peyton Vivian added a hit and an RBI. Veronica Maryanski and Emily Smith each had an RBI, Hayden Perrone stole a base and scored a run.

Against Heidelberg, Maryanski finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, Emily Strupp recorded an RBI. Vivian and Naomi Fay both went 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Nittany Lions return to action in their home opener with a doubleheader against Albright College on Monday, March 20 at 3 p.m.
