Women's tennis drops hard fought battle in spring opener

FINKSBURG, MD - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to McDaniel College in an non-conference contest that was much tighter than the final score resembles on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 3 duo of Katie Davis and Cassie Shoupe won by a score of 8-6 to avoid a sweep in doubles action. The top pair of Bel Clayton and Bailey Rocker fell by a score of 8-7 after dropping the tiebreaker by an 11-9 margin. At the second doubles spot, Alyssa Love and Sam Hagenbush were edged by an 8-5 score.

In singles play, Shoupe earned an 8-2 victory at in the sixth spot. Clayton (No. 1) suffered an 8-6 setback against Green Terror's top player, Carly Jarkiewicz.

The Nittany Lions will host Hood College on Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
