Men's basketball drops close one to SUNY Morrisville

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of an 80-72 decision to SUNY Morrisville in an United East contest on Wednesday night.

The Mustangs led 38-32 after the first half, but Berks battled back to even the score at 45-all. The Nittany Lions regained the lead at 50-47 on a 3-pointer by Josh Gardner and the lead eventually grew to eight points with 12:42 remaining. SUNY Morrisville jumped back ahead with 5:39 remaining and were able to hold on the rest of the way. Several times Berks got back to within two points, as late as with 1:12 remaining, but the Mustangs would not relinquish the lead.

The difference in the game was at the foul line, where Berks was held to just 4-for-6 while the Mustangs were awarded 24 trips and converted on 18.

Jeff Lorah drained six 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 24 points. The senior guard also added a team-best eight rebounds and had three steals. Gardner recorded 13 points, all in the second half, while Andre Ballard chipped in 10 points. Darik Tannis-Harriet added nine points, followed by Isaiah Cotten and Matthew Gingerich with eight apiece.

Shykell Brown led the Mustangs with 22 points, while Tron Smith and Brandon Kulakowski both had 20 points.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Wells College for an United East contest on Saturday, February 11 at 3 p.m.
