Volleyball falls to Penn State Harrisburg in United East opening round

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team saw its 2023 season draw to a close with a 3-2 setback to Penn State Harrisburg in the opening round of the United East Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Berks won the opening game by a 25-16 margin, but Harrisburg took the next two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18. Berks evened the match with a 25-21 triumph in the fourth set, but the home squad took the decisive fifth set by a 15-9 count.

Katelyn Williams recorded 15 kills, followed by Jordan Thompson with 13 and Aubrey Hunt with nine. Diana Stoltzfus and Makenzie Shoop both chipped in eight kills. Riley Kovach pulled down a game-high 24 digs, while Hunt and Stoltzfus had 16 and Williams added 15. Libby Swoyer dished out 49 assists to go along with six digs and an ace. Thompson led the Nittany Lions with three service aces and three solo blocks, while Stoltzfus chipped in a pair of solo blocks.

The Nittany Lions finish the 2023 campaign with an overall record of 7-18. They finished 2-4 in conference play and finished fifth in the United East regular season standings. With no seniors on the roster, the Nittany Lions will look to return to the United East postseason next season.
