Softball picks up two shutout wins over LBC

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team won 8-0 in five innings in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Lancaster Bible College in United East action on Friday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions improved to 11-6 overall and 8-2 in the United East, while LBC falls to 6-14 on the season and 6-6 in conference play.

In game one, Briana Smith tossed her third no-hitter of the season and first perfect game of her career. She sat all 15 batters down in order, six of which came via strikeout. In addition, the junior went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a pair of runs that ended the game by the mercy rule.

Veronica Maryanski went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Susan Duncan and Savannah Wilson both had a hit and an RBI, while Emily Smith scored two times.

In game two, Arizona Shreck allowed four hits and no runs to earn her fourth win of the season. Like Briana Smith, Shreck drove in two runs in put the mercy rule into effect. She finished the game 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.

Duncan, Maryanski, and Erin Spatz all had two hits and combined for three runs and two RBI. Emily Strupp had a hit and drove in two runs, while Peyton Vivian and Naomi Fay each had a hit and scored a run.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
