Women's tennis wins conference opener over Abington

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Penn State Abington in the United East opener for both squads at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

Madison Hetrick and Cassie Shoupe picked up an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 duo of Sam Hagenbush and Madyson Sanzotta were edged 8-4 and Abington took the top bout to take a 2-1 lead going into singles.

In singles action, Mary King earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. Shoupe (No. 3) and Bailey Rocker (No. 4) each won there singles matches to take a 4-3 lead with two points up for grabs. Sam Hagenbush pulled out a 6-4 win in the first set and followed with a 7-5 win in the second to win her match and clinch the victory. Aaliss Osidele (No. 5) tacked on the final tally for Berks after winning 10-8 in tiebreak for a 7-6 triumph in the first set and then was a 6-4 winner in the second set.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a non-conference contest at Cedar Crest College on Friday, April 8 at 4 p.m.
