Baseball swept by Penn College in season finale

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team had its hopes of the postseason dashed after a pair of losses to Penn College on the final day of the regular season. The Wildcats won the opener, 9-0, and took game two by a 13-2 margin.

The Nittany Lions would have jumped Penn College for the final spot in the playoffs had they swept the three-game series. Berks finishes the season with a record of 16-17 overall and 9-12 in the United East, while the Wildcats improve to 20-16 on the year and 13-8 in conference.

In game one, Penn College scored two runs in the second and third then put up a five spot in the fourth to claim the victory.

Colin Templin and Jase Graybill each had a hit.

Josh Miiller allowed eight runs (seven earned), while striking out three in 3.2 innings of work. Dale Murphy allowed three hits and one run in 2.1 innings of relief.

In game two, the Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the first and did not look back from there. Berks plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to make it 12-2, but they were in too big of a hole to climb out of.

Templin recorded a pair of hits, while Kolbie Reeser, Griffin Kay, and Nick Bergeman all had one hit. Kay and Logan Ewert each swiped a bag, while Nate Trovinger and Chad Evans each recorded an RBI. Joe Gramignano and Bergeman scored the runs for the Nittany Lions.

Ben Berkel allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned) in 5.0 innings of work. Colin Wilson, Tyler McGarvey, and Ryan Spatz each tossed an inning of relief.

The Nittany Lions will bid farewell to a number of seniors, who all had a vital role in the teams success this season. But with the strong core returning and the recruiting class brought in by head coach Erik Amspacher, Berks will look to get back to competing for the conference title.
