Softball drops two on final day of spring trip

CLERMONT, FLA - The Penn State Berks softball team fell 9-1 to Mitchell College, followed by a 3-2 setback to Messiah University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions finished the trip with a 3-4 record, five of the games they played in were one-run contests.

Against Mitchell, Peyton Vivian was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Veronica Maryanski, Emily Smith, and Naomi Fay all had a hit, Erin Spatz provided an RBI.

Briana Smith struck out four batters in 4.0 innings of work, Spatz allowed one run in 2.0 innings of relief.

In the second game, Vivian smacked a two-run home run to score Arizona Shreck and put Berks ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth. The Falcons got a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain the lead and the Nittany Lions went down in order in the seventh.

Maryanski and Savannah Wilson both had singles.

Shreck allowed eight hits and three runs in 6.0 innings in the pitcher's circle.

The Nittany Lions returns to action with a home doubleheader against Wells College on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
