Softball picks up sweep of SUNY Morrisville

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team won 10-0 and 14-4 in a sweep of SUNY Morrisville in Saturday afternoon's United East doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions have won four straight contest to improve 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the United East.

In the opener, Briana Smith fired her second no-hitter in as many days. The junior right-hander struck out seven and allowed only three baserunners all game, just one made it as far as second base. Smith improved to 4-2 with a 1.53 ERA, while raising her strikeouts to 38 on the year.

Peyton Vivian, Emily Strupp, and Emily Smith all had two hits and the trio combined for seven RBI and two runs scored. Susan Duncan, Arizona Shreck,and Savannah Wilson all scored a pair of runs.

In game two, Shreck allowed eight hits and four runs (three earned), while striking out four in a winning effort.

Shreck helped her own cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored, while Duncan finished 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. Vivian added two hits, while Strupp and Wilson both had a hit, two runs scored, and an RBI.

The Nittany Lions face Penn College in an United East doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
