Men's soccer edged on the road by Alvernia

Box Score READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback on the road against Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.

Following a foul by Berks, the Golden Wolves deposited a free kick inside the right post for a score just 62 seconds into the contest. From there, both teams had scoring chances, but neither could capitalize.

Alvernia oushot Berks by a 10-3 margin in the first half, but the second half saw a closer total of 10-8 in Alvernia's favor.

In the final five minutes of action, Berks put some pressure on as they tried to find the equalizer. In the 86th minute, Jonathan Morello raced past the defense and sent a shot in front of the keeper from the left side that sailed wide. Shane Gleason had a shot blocked that led to a corner kick and a few minutes later Ryan Curnew had a shot go wide.

Jose Aparicio, coming off a shutout against Albright College on Saturday, recorded nine saves as he kept the Nittany Lions in striking distance. Ben Solsky registered four save to earn the shutout win for Alvernia.

The Nittany Lions will host Ramapo College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 15 at 3 p.m.
