Baseball topped by Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team was topped 7-0 and 8-2 by Penn State Harrisburg in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Nate Trovinger roped a line drive single to right field for the lone hit of game one. After a difficult first inning, Ben Berkel settled in and gave the Nittany Lions 5.0 strong innings. The final line of the afternoon for the right-hander was six hits and six runs (four earned), while striking out one.

In game two, Berks got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning. Pat Maloney reached first on a Harrisburg miscue, Bryce Stout and Nate Trovinger had back-to-back singles to load the bases. Tate Yergey reached base on a fielder's choice, but scored Maloney in the process.

Stout got things started in the eighth with a leadoff single, moved to second on a passed ball and got to third on a groundout by Trovinger. Yergey registered his second RBI of the game with a groundout to short to bring in Stout.

Dale Murphy tossed the first 3.1 innings and Joe Gramignano got a pair of outs. Josh Miiller recorded three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of solid relief. Dom Mayorca worked out of a jam in the seventh and Sam Perrone tossed a perfect eighth inning.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC doubleheader on Wednesday, April 21 at 12 p.m.
