Nittany Lions earn sweep over Wells

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up a sweep of Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions won 10-0 in the opener and followed that up with a 17-2 victory in the second game.

The Nittany Lions, who improved to 5-1 on the season, received a great pitching performance in game one from Briana Smith. The sophomore right-hander allowed three hits and struck out four in a complete-game, shutout. She set down the final eight batters in order and did not allow any runners beyond second base.

At the plate, Arizona Shreck finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored. Susan Duncan went 2-for-3 with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored, while Veronica Maryanski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hunter Hart and Savannah Wilson were both 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI, while Bri Smith and Emily Smith each finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.

In the second game, Shreck allowed three hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out two batters. Peyton Morrell allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout in 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Shreck was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Maryanski also went 3-for-3 to go along with an RBI and two runs scored. Hart was 1-for-2 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. Bri Smith chipped in two hits and scored twice. Wilson was 1-for-3 with an inside the park home run.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a NEAC doubleheader on Thursday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
