Women's basketball falls to Bryn Athyn in season opener

BRYN ATHYN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team made a late push, but the comeback came up short in a 68-59 setback to Bryn Athyn in the season opener on Saturday afternoon.

Bryn Athyn led 20-11 after the first quarter and were leading by 23 with 6:01 remaining in the second period. The Nittany Lions outscored Bryn Athyn 20-13 in the third quarter to make it a 10 point deficit going into the final period. Early in the fourth, Berks was able to pull to within six (53-47), but the Lions would not allow Berks to get any closer than that down the stretch.

Katie Armstrong led the Nittany Lions with 15 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and one blocked shot. Zaelys DeArce and Sam Hagenbush each chipped in 10 points in their collegiate debuts, while Abby Ackley followed with 10 points. Katie Davis added seven points an Marissa Pyatt had five. Ackley recorded eight rebounds and two steals, while Davis had six boards.

The Nittany Lions will host Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
