Hathaway leads Berks past Abington

READING, PA - Sara Hathaway recorded a hat trick and an assist to help lead the Penn State Berks women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Penn State Abington in an United East Conference contest on Wednesday evening.

Berks improves to 6-7-2 overall and 5-1 in the United East, while Abington drops to 6-6-1 on the year and 2-4 in the conference.

Emily Clapper was a part of a three-goal scoring binge that took place over the first 17:15 of the first half. Clapper dribbled down to the end line and sent a pass to Hathaway, who sent a shot inside the far post for a 1-0 lead at the 10:25 mark. Clapper did the same exact thing in the 15th minute, this time with Maddi Monka finding the back of the net. A little over two minutes later, Hathaway redirected a pass from Violet O'Donald to Clapper coming in from the left side. Clapper took a few touches and sent a line drive through the right side of the net. Hathaway added the final goal of the first half with an unassisted breakaway in the 39th minute.

The second half started with another long breakaway by Hathaway with her final goal of the night in the 48th minute. Adriana Lepera capped off the scoring in the 87th minute with Erna Hamzic providing the assist.

Savannah McNeal recorded one save and combined with Jackie O'Brien on the shutout victory, while Maria Tunney had 11 saves for Abington.

Berks outshot Abington by a 32-3 (17-1 on goal) margin and held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Harrisburg for an United East Conference contest on Saturday, October 23 at 3 p.m.
