Baseball splits doubleheader with Albertus Magnus

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Penn State Berks baseball team split a doubleheader with Albertus Magnus College on the final day of the Ripken Experience. Berks claimed the opener, 10-2, before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.

In the win, the Nittany Lions plated four runs, highlighted by a bases clearing double by Mason Pennypacker. Berks tacked on two runs in the third inning, but the Falcons scored once in the fourth. Joe Gramignano had an RBI single and Tate Yergey smacked a two-run homer to go up 9-1. The Falcons scored in the sixth, but Pat Maloney added an RBI single to make it 10-2.

Dante Salerno finished 4-for-4 with a run scored, while Gramignano was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Pennypacker went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Nate Trovinger and Yergey each record two hits, with Yergey also recorded two RBI and two runs scored.

Alex Laudenslager picked up the win after giving up three hits and one run, while striking out three in 4.0 innings of work. Noah Kurtz tossed one scoreless inning and Ziggy Bowles had a pair of strikeouts in 2.0 innings of relief.

Salerno continued his hot hitting in game two, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple. Rich Mueller recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run. Yergey and Pennypacker both went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Kurtz had a hit and scored a run.

BEN BERKEL struck out a season-high six batters in 6.0 innings of work on the mound.
