WVB swept on first day of Rowan Invitational

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on the first day of the Rowan Invitational on Friday afternoon. Berks fell to Widener University in the opener, followed by a setback to Misericordia University in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Nittany Lions (2-3) fell by game scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 against the Pride in the first game. Berks later fell by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 to the Cougars in game two.

In the opener, Natalie Dwyer and Zoe Barna tied for the team lead with 10 kills apiece. Julia Rathsam handed out 19 assists and Madison Wojciechowski had a team-best 10 digs.

Against Misericordia, Barna continued her strong offensive output with a contest-best 11 kills. Rathsam dished out 18 assists, while Wojciechowski notched nine digs. Dwyer and Barna each followed with six digs.

The Nittany Lions will continue the Rowan Invitational on Saturday, September 7. They open up play against Ursinus College at 10 a.m. and will take on host Rowan at 2 p.m.
