Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goal by Geneseo sinks Nittany Lions

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision after SUNY Geneseo netted the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute during a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions drop to 0-3 on the season, while the Knights improve to 2-0 overall.

Geneseo got on the scoreboard when James Perrone took the ball from midfield and flipped a shot over the keepers head for a score in the 28th minute.

The score remained that way into the halftime intermission, but Berks was able to find the equalizer just out of the break. Tyler Dell crossed a ball from the end line that Brenden Valverde knocked out of the air toward the near post. The keeper stopped the initial shot, but Valverde collected the rebound and knocked it into the open goal to notch the game at 1-1 at the 47:09 mark of the match.

Neither team generated many scoring chances until the Knights broke through with a score at 87:04. After the Nittany Lions defended a corner kick, Geneseo's Bryan Wager crossed a ball in front of the goal and Eren Aydin was there to sneak it past the keeper to go up 2-1.

Carter Lam finished the contest with four saves, three of which came in the second half. Will Price recorded a pair of stops to earn the win in net for the Knights.

Geneseo outshot the Nittany Lions by a 15-8 margin (6-3 on goal) and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a home contest against Alvernia University on Monday, September 9 at 7 p.m.
