Women's soccer topped by No. 24 ranked Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 24 ranked Swarthmore College in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Clothier Field.

The Nittany Lions fall to 2-4 on the season, while the Garnet improve to 5-1 overall.

Swarthmore got on the board with a goal at the 4:08 mark of the opening period to build an early 1-0 lead. The Garnet had eight more shots and Berks recorded five for the remainder of the half, but neither side was able to find a goal.

In the second half, Swarthmore added to its lead with a goal in the 67th minute and tacked on another score in the 89th minute to put the contest out of reach.

Leslie Estrada registered 11 saves in net, which is tied for her season-high which she had at Dickinson College earlier in the season. The freshman goalkeeper had four saves in the first half and collected seven in the final 45 minutes of action.

Alexis Schoener, Sara Hathaway, and Jeyda Duran all put shots on target, but none were able to find the back of the net.

The Garnet outshot Berks by a 22-10 margin (14-3 on goal) and held a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions return to action with another nationally ranked opponent, when they host No. 8 Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
