Softball picks up a sweep on the road over Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks softball team continued on its winning ways with a sweep on the road over Morrisville State in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions took the opener by an 8-0 margin in game one, followed by a 29-1 victory in the second game of the twinbill.

The Nittany Lions have now won 12 straight games to improve to 20-8 overall and 10-0 in the NEAC. They have outscored the opposition by a 98-13 margin during the win streak.

In the opener, Berks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with one run in the first and three more in the second. They tallied two runs in the fourth and another two more in the fifth to wrap things up in five innings.

Cori Dickinson went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored to lead the offensive attack. Hunter Hart was 2-for-3 with a one stolen base, one RBI, and three runs scored, while Brianna Smith was 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a double, and a run scored. Maddy Davidson collected two hits, including a double and Nikki Wild added a hit and two runs scored. Heather Rissell recorded a triple and an RBI.

Jess Rozick picked up her ninth win and second shutout of the season. The senior right-hander struck out 11 batters, while scattering just three hits.

In the second game, Smith was red hot at the plate, going 6-for-6 with three doubles, eight RBI, and four runs scored. Dickinson remained perfect on the day with another 3-for-3 showing. In addition, Dickinson had a double, a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. Amaya Phillips finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Rissell was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Hart, Val Miller, Becca Faust, Veronica Maryanski, Davidson, and Ashley Berry all collected a pair of hits and all scored at least two times.

Miller and Erin Spatz split time in the circle, with Spatz making her pitching debut and earning the win. The duo combined to give up just three hits and one run, while striking out five batters.

The Nittany Lions will host Lancaster Bible College in a NEAC doubleheader on Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m.
