Men's tennis falls to Penn College in NEAC opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback to Penn College in a the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at the Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions (2-9, 0-1 NEAC) fell into an early 3-0 deficit after dropping each of the doubles bouts. Curtis Uhle and Louay Qubain were edged 8-6 at No. 1 double by the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1 NEAC) top duo of Luke Whitenight and Blake Whitmire. Jeremy Heist and Shane Leaf were topped 8-2 at second doubles, while Jacob Metzger and Sneh Patel lost 8-3 in the third flight.

Uhle picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Whitenight. Qubain (No. 4) picked up a 7-6 win in the opening set after taking the tiebreaker by a 12-10 margin. He capped off the win with a 6-2 triumph in the second set. Patel rounded out the singles players earning points after topping his opponent 6-2, 6-0 at the sixth spot.

The Nittany Lions return to action when they host Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. The men's and women's tennis teams will host their annual Pink Game fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
