Men's basketball falls to CSE in season finale

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team fell to the College of Saint Elizabeth, 90-77, in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest.

The Nittany Lions trailed 46-43 at halftime, but the Eagles were able to extend their lead to 13 points (72-59) with 9:08 left in regulation. Berks was able to get its deficit down to nine points a couple of times the rest of the way, but the Eagles were able to deny any comeback efforts.

Latrell Carroll had 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots to lead the Nittany Lions. Matt Seip, playing in the final game of his collegiate career, nearly the same stat lines as Carroll. The senior forward finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one blocked shot. The duo finish the year ranked in the top-10 in most off the single-season records in program history. They are both also ranked among the top scorers in the NEAC, with Carroll (19.3 ppg) ranking third and Seip (18.0 ppg) tied for fifth.

Brandon Wise went 4-of-8 from 3-point range en route to a 14 point performance. E'drise Hightower added six points and handed out five assists, while Rene Alexandre had five points and two boards.

Lance Rhoden, powered by a 7-of-12 effort from 3-point range, led all scorers with 28 points. Roland Romano chipped in 20 points and eight boards, followed by Ted Thelemaque with 16 points and four rebounds for the Eagles.

Seip, the lone senior on the team, has etched his name among the career record books despite only playing two seasons for the Nittany Lions. He ranks eighth all-time in scoring with 791 points, while his 16.5 points per game average is the third best. He also ranks in the top-10 at Berks in field goals made (315), field goal percentage (.453), 3-pointers made (71), 3-point percentage (.359), free throw percentage (.756), and minutes per game (32.3).

The Nittany Lions finished the season 3-21 overall and were 3-13 in the NEAC. With the bulk of the team able to return, the Nittany Lions will look for help from newcomers next season to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
