Women's soccer downs Penn College in semis

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team will head to its eighth straight NEAC Championship contest after defeating Penn College, 6-0, in the NEAC Semifinal round on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 14-6 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 10-9-1.

Berks got on the board when Alexis Schoener found the back of the net at the 14:26 mark. The score was set up by a nice pass from Charlotte Pizzuto to the end line, which Sara Hathaway crossed to Schoener in the box. The Nittany Lions tacked on to their lead 58 seconds later when Karina Raykova sent a deep pass over the defense and Hathaway beat the keeper one-on-one. The final score of the opening half came in the 36th minute when JoJo Zolli deposited a shot inside the left post. Emily Stump and Schoener were credited with assists after each connected on passes to set up the score.

Megan Jardine scored seconds into the second half off a feed from Hathaway to make it a 4-0 lead for Berks. Emily Clapper notched a goal in the 49th minute as Hathaway recorded her third assist of the contest. Schoener capped off the scoring with a line drive from the penalty area in the 61st minute.

Leslie Estrada finished the contest with four saves, three of which came in the first half. Estrada received strong play all day from the defensive unit of Raykova, Stump, Lydia Cacciola, and Kristi Cox.

Berks outshot the Wildcats by a 32-5 margin (20-4 on goal) and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Berks will host Penn State Harrisburg in the NEAC title game on Sunday, November 10 at 1 p.m.
