Men's basketball falls in double OT to St. Elizabeth

READING, PA - Steve Luchansky knocked down a buzzer beater from just beyond half court to force a second overtime, but Penn State Berks was outlasted by the College of Saint Elizabeth in a 125-114 setback in Monday night's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle that saw the Nittany Lions take a 41-39 lead into the halftime break. In the second period, Berks led by as much as 11 points (80-69) with 4:43 left to play. The Eagles worked at their deficit and tied the game with 22 second left and again with just one second on the clock. In the first overtime, the largest lead for either team was three points. CSE went up by 106-103 with 2.4 second left, but Luchansky took an inbound pass and then made a few dribbles before drilling his shot as time expired.

In the second overtime, Berks got out to a quick five point lead (111-106), but as player after player for the Nittany Lions fouled out, the lead started to evaporate. The Eagles made 13-of-14 shots at the foul line over the final 1:44 of the extra frame to come away with the road victory.

Matt Seip finished with a team-high 28 points after going 8-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, and 8-of-9 at the free throw line. The senior forward dished out a game-high six assists to go along with three rebound and one steal in 46 minutes of action.

Latrell Carroll notched another double-double after recording 24 points and a game-high 15 boards. The freshman forward also had three assists, three steals, and one blocked shot. Luchansky connected on three shots from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points, while Monty Farmer also had three triples and finished with 15 points. E'drise Hightower and Rene Alexandre both chipped in nine points, while Hassan Darby had six points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Cam Tucker, who was an astonishing 22-for-24 at the foul line, finished with a game-high 40 points. He also shot 7-of-8 from the floor, which included a 4-of-5 showing from long range. Jason Saldiveri tacked on 29 points to go with 10 rebounds, six steals, and five assists.

The Nittany Lions return to NEAC action when they host Gallaudet University on Wednesday,January 23 at 8 p.m.
