Baseball falls in regional opener to UMass-Boston

BOSTON, MA - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped its NCAA Regional opener, 15-1, to UMass-Boston on Thursday evening.

The game started seven hours after the original start time and was moved from Whitehouse Field in Harwich to Monan Field on the campus of UMass-Boston.

The Nittany Lions finished the game with four hits, with only two coming after the top of the second inning. Cory Fox led off the game with a single and finished 1-for-4. Brandon Griesemer collected the hit in the second inning with a liner to right center on his way to a 1-for-3 effort. Toby Welk (1-for-2) and Pearce Harhigh (1-for-4) both had singles late in the game. Tyler Comport had the lone RBI of the game, with Dalton Hughes scoring on the play.

Sean Pavlik, Jameson Glass, and Chase Endy split up the time on the mound. Endy tossed the final 2.2 innings of the game and struck out a career-high three batters.

The Nittany Lions will fight to keep their season alive in an elimination game against Western New England University on Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m.
