Women's tennis picks up 7-2 win over LBC on the road

LANDISVILLE, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team topped Lancaster Bible College, 7-2, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Hempfield Rec Center.

The Nittany Lions improve to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers now sit at 4-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

Berks jumped out in control of the match by taking all three of the doubles bouts. The No. 1 duo of Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim earn a hard fought point by downing Greta Shrunk and Michaela Dearborn by a score of 8-6. Violet Tran and Alyssa Miller were 8-3 winners in the No. 2 flight, while Lucrezia Pulcini and Deismy Jimenez picked up an 8-0 win at the third spot.

In singles action, Bashore completed her perfect day with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at the second spot. Tran grabbed a point with her 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 4, followed by Pulcini winning by the same score in the fifth slot. Tessa Caltagirone (No. 6) rounded out the Berks winner with her 6-0, 6-1 victory.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Abington in another NEAC contest on Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. The tennis program will team up with baseball and softball to host their annual Spring Pink Game fundraiser with all proceedings benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
