Men's tennis tops LBC, 9-0

LANDISVILLE, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team blanked Lancaster Bible College, 9-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Hempfield Rec Center.

The Nittany Lions have won their third straight contest to move to 5-6 on the year and 2-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers drop to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Berks grabbed control of the match early with a sweep of the doubles bouts. Federico Ochoa and Curtis Uhle made quick work of their opposition with an 8-0 triumph in the No. 3 flight. The top tandem of Diego Olazagasti and Mostafa Rahmy won by a score of 8-1, while the No. 2 team of Will Byler and Shane Leaf won by a similar score.

Byler had the tightest match of the afternoon in the No. 1 singles spot, where the senior took down opponent Luke Newberry by set scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Olazagasti (No. 2) and Uhle (No. 4) won their respective singles bouts by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Rahmy earned a point at No. 3 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Ochoa (No. 5) and Grant Batzer (No. 6) both won their singles matches by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Abington in a NEAC tilt on Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m. The tennis program will team up with baseball and softball to host their annual Spring Pink Game fundraiser with all proceedings benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
