Men's tennis topples Alvernia, 6-3

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team returned to action for the first time in nearly three weeks with a 6-3 victory on the road over nearby Alvernia University at Angelica Park on Thursday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (3-6) swiped two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play. Curtis Uhle and Federico Ochoa earned a triumphant 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles, while Mostafa Rahmy and Shane Leaf were 8-3 winners at the third flight.

In singles action, Uhle earned a point at the third spot with his 6-3, 6-2 win. Ochoa (No. 4) and Leaf (No. 6) both won their matches in straight sets, while Grant Batzer needed to go to a third set tie-break to win at the fifth spot. He won the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 6-4. Batzer claimed the match with a 10-4 win in the tie-break.

The Nittany Lions will host Bryn Athyn College in the NEAC opener for both teams on Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m.
