Nittany Lions toppled by St. Elizabeth on Senior Day

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team made things exciting late in the second half, but the College of Saint Elizabeth pulled away late to top earn the 109, 92 victory in the Nittany Lions season finale on Wednesday nights North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Beaver Community Center.

Prior to tip-off, Berks recognized the accomplishments of four-year seniors Nelson Hine and Dave Polisano. The duo played a vital role in brining the game even at 80-all with just over 8:00 minutes left in the game.

Trailing 76-69, Hine kept the Berks possession alive with an offensive rebound and Polisano knocked down a mid-range jumper to pull with five points. On the defensive end of the floor Micah Krauter took one of his three charges to get the ball back for the Nittany Lions. Polisano followed that up with a 3-pointer, but the Eagles responded with four straight points. Hine got back two points with a layup and David DiMeo made it an two-point deficit (80-78) with a lay-in of his own. Polisano had a missed three rebounded by St. Elizabeth, but he followed his shot and stole the ball right back. After taking a dribble, Polisano found Hine under the basket for two points to knot the game at 80-80 and get the home crowd riled up.

CSE used a 21-3 run over the next couple of minutes and Berks was able to rebound down the stretch.

Robbie McHugh finished with a contest-high 16 points after shooting 6-of-7 from the field. Matt Seip knocked down three 3's and finished with 15 points, while DiMeo chipped in 13 points and season-high five blocked shots. Eric Stepnowski notched the first double-double of his career after recording 10 points and 10 boards, both of which were one away from matching his personal-high.

Hine finished the game with seven points, four assists, and matched a career-high in steals with five. The senior guard finishes off his career with 740 points, 411 rebounds, 285 assists, 95 steals, and 50 blocked shots in 75 starts and 83 games played. He ranks second all-time in assists and fifth in steals. Hine ranks among the top-10 in program history in points scored, field goals made, 3-pointers made (110), rebounds, blocks shots, and minutes played. He compiled 115 assists this season, which is tied for the third most in a single-season.

Polisano recorded 10 points, three assists, three steals, and one blocked shot. He has collected 419 points, 71 rebounds, 70 assists, and 27 steals in 80 games played and 23 starts. He has enjoyed his finest scoring output of his career this season, with 287 points for a 12.5 scoring average. He has collected 61 3-pointers made this year, which ranks as the fifth most in a single-season in program history. Polisano finishes his career as the all-time leader in free throw percentage (83.3%), while ranking seventh for 3-pointers made (91). He is also in the top-10 all-time for 3-point field goal percentage (34.0%) and games played.

The Nittany Lions close out the year 2-22 overall and finished 2-14 in NEAC play. As a team, the offense ranked third in program history for field goal percentage (43.0%), 3-pointers made (205), assists (374, while averaging the fourth-most points in school history (75.6 ppg).
